Honey Will You Pass Me the Steering Wheel?
If you’re driving down the highway and find the steering wheel in your hands not connected to the car, you might just be driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. It seems that while Hyundai was building their 2011 Sonata some one forgot to tighten some little old bolt in the steering….
Just a Little Old Bolt…That’s Loose!
Hyundai is recalling certain model year (2011) Sonata vehicles. The affected vehicles were built from December 11, 2009 through September 10, 2010. It seems that the steering columns intermediate shaft may have been assembled incorrectly or insufficiently tightened. In our trade we call that a loose bolt..
The result of this over sight can result in a complete separation or compromised attachment of the connections. The driver could experience a loss of, or reduction in, steering capability increasing the risk of a crash.
In real world terms, if your steering wheel is not connected to the steering rack you are in a whole pile of trouble!
