Michelin Tire’s data system has been compromised, meaning somebody got a hold of a good amount of customer information. Knowing this, you should use care in opening any e-mails or providing personal information. Below is a copy of the document we received from Michelin Tire Company which provides a phone number if you have any questions….
To our valued customers,
The service provider that administers Michelin’s voluntary consumer reviews section on our website recently informed us that this data system was exposed to unauthorized entry. As a result, your email address and name may have been exposed to an unauthorized party. As soon as they became aware of the issue, the service provider took immediate action to close the vulnerability.
Because the data system compromised contained only the email addresses and names of registered users of the consumer reviews function, no other information was exposed; however, we felt it was important to let you know about this incident. Consider these tips to help protect your personal information online:
Don’t provide sensitive information through email. Regular email is not a secure method to transmit personal information.
Don’t provide sensitive information outside of a secure website. Legitimate companies will not attempt to collect personal information outside a secure website. If you are concerned, contact the organization represented in the email.
Don’t open emails from senders you don’t know.
We sincerely regret this has occurred. Michelin takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to protect personal information. Please reply to this emailor call Michelin Consumer Care at 1-866-866-6605 should you have any questions.
