No license or registration for you
We recently received a notice from the State of New Hampshire informing us that DMV is going to be shutting down from Friday, February 17 to Tuesday, February 21. Will be open for business as usual Wednesday morning, February 22. During this time No license or registration for you!
Online service shut down
Wednesday, February 15, through Wednesday, February 22 On-line service shutdown. A smart phone or the web will be of no use to you. No On-line services means:
- Any online services
- Online Driver License Renewal
- Online Ticket Pay
Not to worry if you’re a last minute type person needing to pay your ticket or tickets! Tickets may be paid by phone during normal business hours except for President’s Day, February 20, and Tuesday, February 21, by calling 1-800-272-0036.
Town clerks well be affected too
On Friday, February 17, municipal clerks will not be able to process the state portion of registrations. Customers seeking a registration on Friday, February 17 will be issued a 30-day temporary registration and can return at a later date to complete the transaction. This get out of jail free card is good for 30 days as a temporary registration…. only means you gotta go back.
Why the shut down?
Here we are, 17 years into the 21st century. As you know, government is not known for moving quickly, they need time to think about it. Sometimes they take so long that once the state does start moving, the move is outdated. The State of New Hampshire is now making that move known to the world and they’re going update DMV’s computer systems. After all the 1900’s are behind us so why should the state’s computer system be, too?

NEW HAMPSHIRE DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES TO IMPLEMENT A NEW DRIVER LICENSING COMPUTER SYSTEM
CONCORD, NH – The NH Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles (DVM) is pleased to announce the implementation of a new driver licensing computer system later this month that offers improved reliability and enhanced functionality over the current outdated system.
To minimize service interruptions, the DMV will conduct the transition to the new system over President’s Day weekend.
“Our staff is well trained and has made every effort to ensure services will not be interrupted more than necessary during the implementation of the new system,” DMV Director Elizabeth Bielecki said. “We encourage our customers to complete their DMV business ahead of the President’s Day weekend when possible, in order to avoid longer than usual wait times.”
On Friday, February 17, municipal clerks will not be able to process the state portion of registrations. In addition, all DMV locations will be closed on President’s Day, February 20, and Tuesday, February 21. All DMV offices will return to normal operating hours and municipalities will be able to complete full registrations starting Wednesday, February 22.

Most DMV transactions, including driver license and registration renewals, can be completed in advance of their expiration dates.
